Current
Campaign: In an effort to expand the scope of its
contribution to the region’s healthcare system, the Squamish Health Care
Foundation Society is currently seeking donations to meet the following
program and service objectives. 2006-2007 Program Objectives Computed
Tomography (CT) Scanner The new CT Scanner will provide immediate
diagnosis to patients with severe trauma and impact injuries involving the
head, neck spine, thorax and abdominal regions. It will also be used to
conduct elective diagnosis on patients with diseases such as cancer, chronic
obstructive lung disease and other thoracic and abdominal pathologies, such
as aneurysm and cirrhosis. In addition to reducing wait times for service
from three to six months to as little as seven to 10 days, the CT Scanner to
be located in the Whistler Health Centre, will respond more effectively to
immediate and long-term patient needs – eliminating the need for patients to
travel hundreds of kilometers to receive complex diagnostic service. Expansion of Emergency Department The Squamish General Hospital
Emergency Department is operated 24 hours a day seven days a week and treats
more than 15,000 patients every year. The Squamish Health Care Foundation
Society plans to provide funds to renovate and expand the Emergency
Department, adding new space and improving existing triage, treatment and
waiting room facilities. We will also help purchase a range of surgical instruments
and support equipment as part of this effort. In addition to increasing
capacity and reducing wait times, the installation of new facilities will
enable Hospital staff to better identify and respond to acute trauma cases,
significantly raising a patient’s potential for survival. 2007-2008 Program Objectives Hill
Top House Long Term Care Expansion We plan to add 49 additional beds to the Long
Term Care facility at Hilltop House so patients can move out of the Acute
Care beds without having to be transferred to Squamish
Acute Care Expansion We also need to expand the current Acute Care
capacity by an additional 21 beds to be able to adequately service the
rapidly growing population in the corridor which is expected to reach 60,000
by 2029. |
